If you don’t know much about Four Roses they have 10 different bourbon recipes. I’m not going to go through the whole list of them but, All 10 recipes do go into the Four Roses Yellow Label. Only 4 recipes go into the small batch, it is a blend of OBSK, OESK, OBSO, and OESO. Then 1 recipe for the single barrel OBSV.

Four Roses barrel selection program allows a buyer to come in and taste through all ten recipes at barrel proof, and pick the one they like the most. Most barrel selection from Four Roses are bottle at barrel proof and non-chill filtered.

This barrel selection is 9 years and 1 month old, and comes in at 125.2 proof. It comes from rickhouse JE and its barrel number 31-5Q. This bourbon is packed full of flavor and perfectly balanced. Thick and creamy with tons of fruit notes. It’s not too hot at 125.2 proof, but if you wanted to add a cube of ice, it will not lose all that great flavor!

Nose: Hot and fruity. Up front there is a lot of alcohol, after 10 minutes the alcohol fades and the fruit comes through. Cherry pie, apples, and light hints of bananas. There is also hints of cedar, cinnamon, and rye bread.

Palate: Very creamy. Tons of flavor here. Vanilla pudding, butterscotch, orange zest, and baked apples up front, fallowed by toasted coconut, oak, and hot cinnamon spice.

Finish: Long and hot! Pie crust, oak, and cherry!
