All right, today I will be reviewing AAA 10 year, not to be confused with AAA 10 Star. The big difference between the two is the age. 10 Star is around 3 - 4 years old, where 10 year is well 10 years. Sad to say that AAA 10 year has been discontinued. Both share the same mash bill, which is mash bill #2. Mash bill #2 is Buffalo Trace high rye mash bill, which is somewhere between 13%-16% rye. AAA is in good company with Blanton’s, Elmer T. Lee, RockHill Farms, and Hancocks Reserve, all sharing mash bill #2.
So looks like it’s time to review!
Very sweet. Honey, caramel and cherries are the main characters here. With hints of oak, rye, and figs.
The palate is spot on with the nose. Honey, caramel, and toffee hits first, then there's cinnamon, rye, orange peel, and soft oak.
Great finish. Medium to long. Toffee, rye, and cherries!
